BRIEF:?”The Impossible Interface Design a mobile and desktop interface for an imaginary or impossible service. Design a portrait mobile version and a larger screen landscape version. Your designs should be accompanied by sketches, research, design ideas and tests all posted on your workbook blog. Build the mobile page as a single web page.”
For the Impossible Interface project, I am taking inspiration from my childhood, specifically my love for the film Dr. Doolittle. I used to dream about what it would be like to be able to talk to animals. Therefore my concept for the project stems from that idea of communication between humans and the animal kingdom, breaking down the language barrier through the translating capabilities of a smartphone app, by?utilising the ?processing power and the microphone.
Another source of inspiration for me was from the book ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ by Douglas Adams, specifically a curious fictional yellow sea creature called the ‘Babel Fish’. By putting the ‘Babel Fish’ into one’s ear one can instantly understand anything said in any language, because it removes all barriers to communication.
Other sources of inspiration include apps like; iTranslate, iTranslate Voice, and Google Translate. I will take inspiration from the apps different?aspects and elements of their interface design.
